A cyanotype, bleached and toned with coffee.
30 x 30cm in an ornate pale wooden frame.
Working from the iconic photographs of Dorothy Wilding, who was entrusted with taking the first official portraits of the young Queen Elizabeth II, I have reimagined her diamond tiara with flowers from her own gardens.
Through the cyanotype process, these flowers become a different kind of crown, one that reflects the woman rather than the institution.
It was only later that I discovered the dahlias I had chosen were also among the flowers gathered from her gardens and placed upon her coffin. A beautiful and unexpected connection that makes these pieces all the more meaningful to me.
